Juris!

Juris!

After an injury, Juris has been in the wheelchair for 11 years now. Despite the difficulties, he has learned to accept it and smiles every day. It is a little bit harder to move upwards in the wheelchair, but he has accepted it and lives his life to the fullest. He is happy to share his story. He has a secondary education and has acquired accounting skills, so he is always happy to discuss trigonometric functions.
He joined the Cerību Spārni (Wings of Hope) community about a year ago and usually he uses public transport to get there. Most of his time at the Day Centre he spends decorating flower pots with tile patterns to make them bright, beautiful and attractive to himself and others. He tries to find the most colourful and interesting tiles. He has addressed various store owners with a request to donate discarded tiles and unsold goods to create new interesting art works. The store owners have given various responses to his request; therefore, Juris is suggesting to everyone to become more open and to always cooperate with each other. That would help him to create more beautiful art works. He is creating the beautiful flower pots no only at the day entre, but also at home. Juris has already prepared Advent wreaths from cones that he picked up by himself. He has also done decoupaging, but even more he likes to tease people. Juris is also good at cutting fabrics, as he makes blanks for carpet weavers. He also likes to visit and be a part of local fairs, where it is possible to sell his handmade goods.
In the spare time, Juris goes to the Sigulda swimming pool to get in shape and prepares to resume training in the Latvian parahockey team. Parahockey is sport designed for people who are confined to a wheelchair and are at the beginning of their self development. He also loves to read books. Crime novels are his favourite. He has been in the association “Kalna svētību kopiena” established by the priest Andrejs Mediņš, which is located in Brukna manor and designed as a rehabilitation for addicts. He helped to build the church. With the support of the priest, he went on the pilgrimage to Aglona twice. It has been a great journey for him to disconnect from secular life and to critically evaluate people. He likes to discuss the essence and mission of the pilgrimage.
Juris always praises his sister, because she supports him on a daily basis and is a great cook too. He loves to eat fresh salmon buns for the breakfast. If he feels like there is a lack of inspiration, he is always trying to seek new ideas in the small things, spending his time outside by the nature and dreaming of new ideas.
